Judges uphold prison sentences of men who kidnapped FBI specialist at gunpoint
Illegal immigrant and companions ran drugs to South Dakota when altercation occurred
Two drug dealers who abducted an FBI employee on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation will continue to serve out their prison sentences after a three-judge panel rejected their appeals Wednesday.
Juan Francisco Alvarez-Sorto and co-defendant Deyvin Morales appealed their 2024 sentences to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Both claimed various faults with their trial in their appeals.
Alvarez-Sorto, an El Salvadoran who was in the country illegally and had previously been deported, was sentenced to 420 months in prison while Morales, who was from Guatemala, received 564 months. Both men were found guilty following a jury trial in January of 2024.
