Sidney “Sid” Sheggeby, 88, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away on Aug. 15, 2026, under hospice care surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, in the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Family and loved ones are warmly invited to come together to honor Sid and celebrate his life and legacy. Interment will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, rural Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home.
Sidney “Sid” Allen Sheggeby, 88, of Georgetown, passed away Aug. 15. He was born in Granite Falls, Minn., to Prescott and Luella (Samuelson) Sheggeby on May 13, 1938. He attended Granite Falls public schools and Augustana Academy in his senior year and went on to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. Sid graduated with a major in psychology and minor in biology and received his teaching certificate. He began his career teaching high school biology in Parkers Prairie, Minn., and later married his beloved Lee Ann Randall. Several years later, after moving to Sioux Falls, Sid accepted a position with Patrick Henry School, where he taught general science and mathematics.
Sid then left the teaching field and went to work in food technology and quality control for the Green Giant Company in LeSueur, Minn. His work with Green Giant took him out to Salisbury, Md. for three years, and then back to LeSueur again. Hormel was the next step in Sid’s career, where he spent the next 14 years as packaging graphics manager for Hormel in Austin, Minn. At age 50, with a desire to experience a new challenge, Sid accepted the position as packaging graphics manager for the Clorox Company, headquartered in Oakland, Calif. This meant a move for Sid and Lee Ann to Danville, a lovely little town nestled in the hills of California. Following Sid’s retirement from the Clorox Company in 2013, Sid and his wife, Lee Ann, moved back to Sioux Falls in 2005.
Sid was active in Lutheran church activities through the years. He cofounded the Austin Diabetes Association and served on the Minnesota state board for several years. He always enjoyed playing tennis, traveling and exploring new parts of the country. He led many family summer vacations – so many camping trips to look back on and laugh about! He also felt it important to remember his roots and traveled back to the home farm in Minnesota to help brother Paul with fall harvests for many years.
In 2020, Sid and Lee Ann moved to Georgetown (Sun City) to be closer to their youngest daughter, Pamela. Many weekends were spent at Pam’s house, filled with laughter, good food, family time and memories that will always be cherished.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents, Prescott and Luella, and brother, Philip. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lee Ann; three daughters, Lorie (Fred) of Yakima, Wash., Karin (Bob) of Juneau, Alaska, and Pamela of Cedar Park, Texas; grandson, Robert, of Chandler, Ariz.; brother, Paul (Patricia) of Granite Falls; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
