Doeden guarantees GOP primary victory, says runoff won’t be needed
Four-way GOP governor race nears finish as Hansen, Johnson, Rhoden joust with Aberdeen businessman before South Dakota's June 2 election

A candidate in the South Dakota GOP gubernatorial primary is guaranteeing victory when all the votes cast in next Tuesday’s election are counted. But Toby Doeden didn’t only predict he’d win the Republican nomination for governor over an incumbent governor, a four-term congressman and the state House speaker during an interview with The Dakota Scout.
The Aberdeen businessman also says there’s no chance a runoff will be needed to decide the race.
“Oh, 100 percent. Absolutely. No question,” Doeden said when asked on the newspaper’s Scouting Lounge podcast if he’d capture at least 35 percent of the votes — the minimum threshold necessary for him or his intra-party rivals in the race — U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson, Gov. Larry Rhoden and House Speaker Jon Hansen — to earn nomination to the general election ballot.
