Mayday Health, former state senator, allege impending law violates First Amendment
A New York nonprofit that provides information for women seeking abortion pills and a South Dakota lawyer have filed suit against Gov. Larry Rhoden and Attorney General Marty Jackley over a law that bars the advertising of abortion services.
Mayday Health and Watertown attorney Nancy Turbak Berry also asked a federal judge for a preliminary injunction barring the state from enforcing House Bill 1274. That bill, passed this year by the Legislature, makes it illegal to dispense any “article, instrument, substance, drug, medicine” or other items that can induce abortions. The bill also makes it illegal to advertise any of those items.
Brookings man accused of heisting $78K worth of diamond rings from jeweler
Authorities in eastern South Dakota say nearly $80,000 worth of diamond rings have been recovered as part of an investigation into a jewelry store burglary in Brookings earlier this year.
