PIERRE — Should Missouri River water flow into the often drought afflicted Black Hills of South Dakota?

State lawmakers on the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources committee think so, voting unanimously to support Senate Joint Resolution 501 Tuesday morning to allow the so-called Western Dakota Regional Water System project to tentatively move forward.

The resolution would allow 21 communities throughout western South Dakota that are currently signed on to the project to have drinking water pumped from the Missouri River near Fort Pierre to their communities.
