Trump wants Lake Ontario renamed Lake America. Fine. But somebody apparently forgot to check with the nation’s geography teachers.
We’ve spent generations remembering the Great Lakes with HOMES — Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior. Replace Ontario with America and suddenly we’ve got SHAME. Seems about right.
This follows the Gulf of Mexico becoming the Gulf of America, because apparently one of the major responsibilities of the presidency is now going through the atlas with a Sharpie. Canada, meanwhile, says it’s still Lake Ontario. So now geography depends on which side of the lake you’re standing on. Four more years and we may need an entirely new social studies curriculum.
At least Mount Rushmore is still Mount Rushmore. As of Friday afternoon.
