The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General has confirmed longer delivery times and declining service performance across the state after downgrading South Dakota's post office processing facilities.
An audit report released Wednesday by USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull found recent changes to the federal mail network here that shifted mail processing to multiple out-of-state facilities reduced in-state connectivity, forcing South Dakota mail to travel long distances — sometimes across multiple states — before being sorted and sent back in-state.
