Too close to call: South Dakota GOP governor's race likely settled in July

Two South Dakota Republican gubernatorial hopefuls in the 2026 election are headed for a runoff.

But one of the candidates in the four-way race that shows each candidate within points of one another has claimed victory with dozens of precincts left to count.

“We might even wrap this up tonight,” Toby Doeden said while addressing his election night warehouse party crowd at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
