Tails and nest predator program changes
Tails are piling up across South Dakota this spring as a new youth trapping program races toward its 20,000-tail cap, signaling a fast start to the state’s retooled approach to predator control.
The 2026 Youth Trapping Recruitment Program is nearing that 20,000-tail cap, according to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officials, as state wildlife officials shift from the broader Nest Predator Bounty Program to more targeted efforts focused on youth participation and coyote control.
