South Dakota Republicans spent the last year looking for something.

I’m just not entirely sure they found it.

After four debates, millions of dollars in advertising, enough campaign mail to heat a garage through January and approximately 17 million text messages informing us that democracy itself was hanging by a thread unless we immediately voted for somebody, voters finally got their chance to render a verdict.

And the verdict was:

“Maybe.”

Gov. Larry Rhoden will not participate in a one-on-one debate against Republican gubernatorial runoff opponent Toby Doeden before South Dakota voters choose their party’s nominee later this month.
