U.S. Attorney's Office secures prison sentences, indictments in cases involving stolen money
The U.S. Attorney’s Office Tuesday announced the opening of another embezzlement case involving taxpayer funds in Indian Country following two recent prosecutions of stolen tribal funds.
Patrick Fire Thunder and Tracie Renay Gallego, both 51, are accused of stealing a six-digit sum of money from the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The money was intended for vendors to the tribe’s Emergency Youth Shelter, but prosecutors say the couple pocketed the funds for their own personal benefit.
The indictments followed two separate embezzlement cases in which tribal funds were targeted to the tune of millions of dollars.
