South Dakota's largest city won’t host state basketball tournament for first time in decades

For the first time in more than six decades, Sioux Falls will not host a South Dakota high school state basketball tournament this spring.

Since the Sioux Falls Arena first opened in 1961 as the state’s premier sports venue, at least one boys’ or girls’ state basketball tournament has been played in the city each spring. But in 2026, the rotation shifts west, with Rapid City hosting the boys’ Class A and AA tournaments as well as the girls’ Class AA tournament.
