PIERRE โ€” South Dakota voters could be asked to reconsider Medicaid expansion.

A South Dakota House committee voted Wednesday to reopen the fight over Medicaid expansion, sending a repeal proposal to the House floor four years after voters approved the program.

The House State Affairs Committee voted 8โ€“4 to advance House Joint Resolution 5002, which would ask voters in 2026 whether to repeal Medicaid expansion. Supporters warned long-term cost pressures threaten other state priorities, while opponents argued repeal would shift health care costs onto families, hospitals and rural communities.
