South Dakota pushing hemp licensing to federal regulators
Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources wants to wash it hands of program bleeding taxpayer dollars
PIERRE – South Dakota is looking to offboard its hemp program.
Or at least, most of it.
The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources is asking the Legislature to transfer its licensing authority over hemp producers to the United States Department of Agriculture, which has a separate licensing system. The move comes only a few years after hemp became legal to grow in the state amid much consternation about how to regulate the low THC cannabis.
