One thing I have learned in my work is that downtown does not happen by accident.
“Not by accident” is one of our organization’s core values, but it has also become a personal reminder for me. The best parts of a city are rarely the result of one meeting, one plan or one opinion. They come from thousands of intentional decisions made over time by people who care enough to stay engaged.
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about public input. It is one of the most common frustrations we hear from residents, business owners, city leaders and stakeholders. People want to be heard. They want to know what is coming. They want to understand how decisions are made before those decisions feel final.
