South Dakota voters, in approving Medicaid expansion last year, prohibited state lawmakers from imposing work requirements on federal health insurance recipients.

Now, lawmakers want another state-wide vote to amend that restriction, empowering the Legislature to determine the necessity of work requirements for able-bodied adults.

But first, Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree and Rep. Tony Venhuizen will need to convince their colleagues in Pierre to put the question on the ballot.
