Former United States Sen. Robert J. Gamble died in his Sioux Falls home 100 years ago this week.

In 1875, Gamble moved to what was then the territory of Dakota, starting a law practice with his brother, John R. Gamble. According to the Kimball Enterprise, the firm would go on to become one of the most successful in the early days of statehood, the future senator taking full control of the business following his brother’s death in 1891.
