The South Dakota Department of Corrections is often the source of, shall we say, unfortunate news. But the department had some good news in January.

Pheasantland Industries released images and details about custom giftboxes that inmate workers made for the commissioning of the USS Pierre. The newest addition to the U.S. Navy’s fleet was commissioned in November.

Pheasantland Industries, located at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, develops inmate labor and skills they can use to secure employment when they are released. Pheasantland includes a printshop, cabinetry center, screen printing, upholstery and other services.
