The Minnehaha County Commission has given a rural Hartford property owner a stay of execution, giving him a month to clean up his property.

The commission declared the property three miles south of Hartford a public nuisance, but also stipulated that the county would not move in and clean the property until at least Sept. 25.

That’s after owner Kim Halverson presented his case to the commission, telling commissioners that he is currently renting a garbage bin and cleaning the property.

Halverson owns a heating and air conditioning company, and the property has become a dumping ground of sorts for old units.
