Petition urges Dakota State to drop Noem as commencement speaker
Voices for Peace says DHS Secretary 'has caused irreparable harm to individuals families, and the core principles of democracy'

South Dakota Voices for Peace is urging Dakota State University to rescind its invitation to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem as commencement speaker and withdraw her honorary degree.
The group’s petition says Noem’s record “has caused irreparable harm to individuals, families, and the core principles of democracy.” The petition cites her previous ban from all nine South Dakota tribal nations, her use of private funds to deploy the South Dakota National Guard to the southern border and her actions affecting LGBTQ+ communities and higher education.
Dakota State’s graduation ceremony is May 10.
