Kindergarten numbers dip in Sioux Falls, driving overall enrollment decrease
Officials: Most school population trends predictable, but kindergarten numbers surprising
The initial enrollment of students in the Sioux Falls School District fell slightly compared to last year, the district reported Monday.
However, the decrease was minor, with 71 fewer students than last year, down to 24,335. Kindergarten enrollment was down by 127 students while grades first through fifth were up 105.
“We aren’t seeing anything surprising here at the grade level, other than the kindergarten level,” said Doug Morrison, the district’s director of data services. He noted that the current fourth-grade class was also a smaller kindergarten class.
