Six wrecks in first days of school year spur traffic changes

A rash of crashes near Harrisburg High School has government officials from the state, city, county and school district working together to bolster traffic safety in northern Lincoln County.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation has agreed to reassess traffic levels along state Highway 115 near Harrisburg after a half-dozen crashes were reported in the area during the first three days of the new school year. And, according to County Commissioner Joel Arends, the amount of time that a protected left-turn arrow is displayed on a traffic light has been extended, and the green arrow for southbound drivers turning into the high school is also being adjusted.
