Gov. Kristi Noem makes Senate rounds in bid to lead Homeland Security
Governor has vowed to support President-elect Trump's deportation policies

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has started the process of wooing U.S. senators in her bid to gain confirmation as President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security secretary.
Noem visited with senators Tuesday to discuss her nomination. The sprawling Department of Homeland Security was created after the 9/11 attacks by President George W. Bush, but one of its silos includes immigration and border security. Noem, the first governor to send National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border to assist Texas in securing the border, has rode her immigration background to the national forefront.
