Sioux Falls School District K-12 enrollment was down 356 students through the fourth day of school compared with the same point last year.
The Sioux Falls School Board on Monday heard that smaller kindergarten classes continue to put downward pressure on enrollment. Board members also learned the district finished the last fiscal year substantially better than budgeted and heard encouraging results from its elementary literacy program.
Day 4 enrollment stood at 23,934 students, compared with 24,290 last year, a decline of about 1.5 percent. Elementary enrollment was down 169 students, middle school was down 42 and high school was down 153. Junior kindergarten added eight students.
