More than 500 firearms collected by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety will be reviewed by federal agencies.

About 500 firearms that had sat untested after being seized by a western South Dakota tribe will undergo forensic testing this year.

That’s thanks to federal authorities who are aiding the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety in sifting through a longstanding backlog of ballistic evidence that investigators say could help solve violent crimes on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
