Asbestos exposure, complaints stop work at downtown Sioux Falls hotel project
South Dakota regulators flag Aberdeen developer for hazardous waste violations at U.S. Bank building
Asbestos contamination has shuttered a 10-story downtown Sioux Falls high-rise.
And state regulators accuse the building’s new owner of exposing tenants to hazardous construction dust and attempting to evade environmental oversight.
“DANR staff confirmed that asbestos-containing materials had been disturbed and removed by uncertified workers,” according to the Division of Hazardous Waste Management at the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, which is alleging multiple environmental safety violations at the 141 N. Main Ave. building that prompted closure of the U.S. Bank branch housed on the first floor last month.
