Wayne Heeren, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born on November 10, 1954, to Louis and Katie (Symens) Heeren in Sioux Falls, SD.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Faith Temple Church, 2121 W. 33rd St.
Wayne grew up on a farm in Chancellor, South Dakota, and graduated high school from Lennox in 1973. After high school, he worked as a DJ at WNAX and KXRB, where he loved being on the radio. The name of his show was “Weekends with Wayne!”
After a long career at the radio stations, he shifted gears to work for Midco and then on to become a project manager at Crescent Electric, where he eventually retired. Wayne also worked at Hy-Vee and found joy in being around people.
Wayne dedicated countless hours volunteering at the Faith Temple Food Giveaway, which was a significant part of his life. Through this work, he met many amazing people. He was always there to support his family, cheering them on and offering help whenever they needed it. You could always count on Wayne; he was very likable, social and outgoing.
Wayne had a notable collection of Geo Metro cars and enjoyed collecting pocket watches.
Grateful to have shared his life are his daughter, Amber Heeren and her mother, Mary Hallickson; step-son, Justin (Jenay) Hallickson; siblings, Lynn (Julie) Heeren, Vera (Brian) Kruid, and Marjean (Loren) Kuper; grandchildren, Nathan, Eve, and Benjamin; many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Paul Heeren, and sister, Lois Heeren.
