Editor’s note: The Mayor’s Youth Council sent this letter to Sioux Falls City Council sharing their insight into indoor recreation in their community.

Dear City Councilors,

We are the 2024 Mayor's Youth Council. We are privileged and honored to be coming to you all today and communicating the importance of Indoor Recreation in our ever-changing and growing community of Sioux Falls.

As you all know, Sioux Falls is growing quickly and has no plans of stopping anytime soon. The expansion, creation, and popularity of indoor recreation is a unique and exciting demand for our city. Indoor recreation is extremely important: recreation centers provide a sense of community, belonging, and safety. They allow people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to go out into our community and take part in something bigger than themselves. To find a place to belong and feel welcome, indoor recreation is about serving our community and asking the question of how can we as a city be better for our citizens and what can we do to serve our citizens best?
