VIEWPOINT | Quality care is in reach for rural Americans with Medicare Advantage

South Dakota is a state like no other. Our vast landscapes, tight-knit communities, and deep agricultural roots define who we are. But with those strengths come challenges – especially when it comes to health care access. That’s why we need programs designed to fit our reality, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Medicare Advantage does exactly that.
Medicare Advantage provides affordable, high-quality care to tens of thousands of South Dakota seniors, offering comprehensive benefits like vision, dental and hearing, as well as prescription drug coverage. What makes the program stand out, though, is how it is tailored to meet the needs of rural communities. Access to telehealth services allows South Dakotans to consult with doctors from the comfort of their homes, reducing cumbersome travel burdens. Additionally, caregiver support and transportation services help those with mobility challenges remain independent and connected to care.
