
South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson, a Republican, has endorsed Democrat Terrence Davis to replace her.
That isn’t crossing the aisle. That’s pulling the fire alarm on the way out of the building.
Johnson has spent more than a decade working in the Secretary of State’s Office. She says Davis is the candidate best prepared to run it.
Her party instead nominated Heather Baxter, who supported hand-counting ballots before changing her campaign language to “improved hand counting methods.” Evidently, the problem wasn’t the idea. It was the wording.
