Watertown automotive instructor Cody Sokolosky won a gem of an award on Sept. 29. Sokolosky, who teaches at Northeast Technical High School, was named a teacher of excellence by Harbor Freight’s Tools for Schools program. According to The Watertown Current, Sokolosky is the first South Dakota teacher to win the prize in its 10 years of existence.

And what a prize it is. Harbor Freight, a national tool supplier, awarded 25 teachers nationwide with monetary winnings of $2 million. Sokolosky won $75,000 — $50,000 will go to Northeast Technical High School and $25,000 to Sokolosky.

More than 500 teachers applied for the prize.
