South Dakota Game Fish & Parks is taking nominations for the state’s Threatened and Endangered Species List as state officials begin a new biennial review of wildlife.

Nominations can be made to both add species to the list as well as to delist species already on the list. The deadline is Dec. 31.

The process has not been without controversy. In 2020, GF&P removed the river otter as a threatened species, opening the way to a limited trapping season. This year, the limit of 20 otters was reached in less than two weeks.
