Tribal cops and elected officials alike in South Dakota hope a first-of-its-kind law enforcement training course for Indian Country police agencies could serve as a prototype for future state-federal partnerships.
With the support of the governor’s office, Attorney General Marty Jackley earlier this month announced the South Dakota Law Enforcement Training Academy would dedicate its summer programming for a tribal police-focused course aimed at helping the state’s nine tribal governments address officer shortages on their reservations.
