Dolly Parton’s nearly six-decade history with South Dakota came to an end Tuesday with her death at 80.
Parton’s family said she “died peacefully today in Nashville.” No cause of death was released.
Her South Dakota story began in 1968, when the 22-year-old country singer performed two shows in one night at the Sioux Falls Coliseum. She would return to the state repeatedly over the next five decades, performing in Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Rapid City and Deadwood.
