South Dakota parolee hunters nabbing hundreds of absconders
DOC created unit in December to address crime, growing numbers
A special unit created by the South Dakota Department of Corrections has apprehended more than 230 parole absconders since its creation in December, the department announced Tuesday.
The tally includes 20 “priority absconders.”
DOC created the Absconder Apprehension Unit in December to track down parolees who violate the conditions of their parole. Many of them fail to report and attempt to disappear, a violation of their supervision agreements.
