One of the largest scandals in the history of forensic DNA testing that will impact thousands of people has been handed off to South Dakota authorities.

The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office confirmed to The Dakota Scout that the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is leading a criminal investigation into a Yvonne “Missy” Woods, who is accused of altering DNA evidence in more than 600 cases as a forensic scientist with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) between at least 2008 and 2023.

That investigation could include combing through and retesting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
