Critics of Gov. Larry Rhoden and the Legislature’s iteration of property tax relief this year are hoping South Dakota voters will have the final say in November.
A campaign committee has formed to refer Senate Bill 245 to the ballot for voters in November, looking to block legislation that would draw more than $100 million annually from sales tax collections for a property tax relief fund. But opponents say it’s a regressive shift that unfairly burdens low-income South Dakotans, businesses and renters.
