A police union group is requesting assurances that automated license plate readers (ALPRs) won’t be abused after Sioux Falls budgeted city funds for the cameras.

The Sioux Falls Police Labor Union, a labor organization representing more than 200 officers and sergeants of the city’s police force, issued a call for reform after the City Council formally approved an $800 million 2027 city budget in a Sept. 8 council meeting.
