A bid to spare the Sioux Falls Coliseum from demolition fell short 25 years ago this week.

But area preservationists weren’t dissuaded by the Minnehaha County Commissioners’ insistence that the downtown venue be razed.

The county had purchased the crumbling building from the city six years earlier, but despite a new makeup of the county commission, no member chose to reconsider their vote taken one month earlier. Instead, the county Board of Preservation rallied to save the structure that still stands a quarter century later.
