For nearly a century, scientists have been trying to figure out what dark matter is. Dark matter is a mysterious invisible substance that appears to make up about 85 percent of all the mass in the universe. We can’t see or touch it, and we’ve never detected it directly. Scientists only know it’s there because of the way it affects the motion of stars and galaxies. Discovering exactly what it is remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in science.
Now, a new analysis from a major experiment called LUX-ZEPLIN (or LZ) has recorded a single unusual particle interaction that researchers are finding hard to explain.
