While Aberdeen has lost a modest number of residents in the 2020s, there are signs that the city could have a strong future.

That’s the assessment of Erin Fouberg, vice president of academic affairs at Northern State University and a member of the Aberdeen City Council.

Fouberg is a trained human geographer with expertise in political geography and geography education.

Aberdeen’s population hit an all-time high of 28,491 in 2020. The estimate was down in 2023 to 28,110.
