Knowing there were few people of color in cinematography did not dissuade her. Her path was set when she started classes at the University of Southern California.
One day she was scrolling through her phone and came across a video made by a man who visited the Pine Ridge Reservation, documenting his reactions and impressions.
It was not flattering.
