The McPherson County Planning and Zoning Board deferred action on a conditional use permit application for a data center that would be built near Leola at its most recent meeting.

Board members decided to postpone a vote until legal agreements are put in place concerning financial contributions from the business. The board’s next meeting has not yet been set. It usually meets monthly or quarterly.

The conditional use permit would be for the proposed 50-megawatt Leola Data Center. It would be built on about 9 acres and use about as much water as a four-person household, according to information from the company.
