Rep. Rehfeldt,

You said: Join me in making a pledge that every child in South Dakota feels loved, supported and cherished. We can rewrite the narrative of despair and cultivate a culture of empathy, understanding, and resilience.

Remember, hope is the strongest antidote to despair. Let us be the beacons of hope for our children, youth and young adults.

Lest this be a mere "on the bandwagon" platitude (which I do not believe you intend it to be), we must do all we can to build self esteem in all our children. We must therefore, in addition to maintaining loving attitudes towards others and vigilance for these children, carefully examine the harmful effects on the self esteem of minority children (e.g., lgbtq, as well as ethnic minorities) of legislation enacted under the guise of "protecting our children" when the true purpose is to selfishly impose our own conservative values as if those values are right and the values of others are wrong. The effect of enacting legislation which singles out and focuses upon children with conditions and characteristics over which they have no control will inevitably cause them grievous mental and emotional harm to those children as well as to our own character; even more so when the legislation is put into effect in society.

I’m glad you’re interested in saving lives. I hope that will be reflected by voting pro-life for the unborn children as well.
