The June 2024 primary election might be months away, but the gloves are already coming off in some key battleground districts around South Dakota.

The average Republican voter isn’t likely thinking about who they’ll choose when they head to the polls next summer, but candidates have begun filing paperwork to begin fundraising ahead of what will be some highly contested elections. And in some contests, the campaigning is already getting a bit chippie.

Look no further than District 25 where incumbent Sen. Tom Pischke is expected to square off against former state lawmaker Jordan Youngberg, who earlier this month formally announced his intention to get back into the Legislature.

“The decision to run again is something I’ve been excited to announce for a while now,” Youngberg said last week.
