Judge dismisses Brandon schools, police from lawsuits stemming from hate crime investigation
High school girls arrested after small black baby dolls found hanging in restroom
A federal judge has dismissed lawsuits against the Brandon School District and the city of Brandon brought by two high school students who were arrested and charged with hate crimes.
However, Judge Roberto Lange declined to dismiss the lawsuits against Minnehaha County because the girls were forced to spend a night in the county’s Juvenile Detention Center when they could have been released to their parents.
The lawsuits stem from a Feb. 22, 2022 incident in which two dark colored plastic babies were hung from the ceiling of a girls’ restroom in Brandon Valley High School.
