Emilee Petersmark and Kate Pillsbury had convinced the manager of the Chinese buffet where they worked to let them perform on Friday nights instead of cleaning tables. It was the recession. Money was thin, neither of them wanted to spend another evening clearing discarded crab legs and playing music offered at least a temporary escape from waitressing.
