Robert “Bob” Duane Kasch, 74, of Sioux Falls took his last breath on Oct. 20, 2026. While he sometimes tried to hide it behind a gruff exterior, Bob was known for his exceptionally big and thoughtful heart, his kindness and his ability to find a way to relate to everyone, remembering little details and keeping them tucked away in his heart for future conversations.
Bob was born on Nov. 25, 1951, in Sioux Falls to Albert Darrell and Phyllis (Pederson) Kasch. He was the second son of four amazing siblings and loved being both a younger and older brother to Rick, Sharon and Nancy. His parents taught them all the value of hard work and a well-timed joke. He was incredibly proud of his Sioux Falls roots and was a loyal Lincoln Patriot to the very end, often reminiscing about his time on the Lincoln football field. Following his time at Lincoln, he majored in business at the University of South Dakota and was so happy to see his children follow in his “Coyote” footsteps. He was a proud member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and loved to tell stories about these days, including the time they mowed a rival fraternity’s shag carpet with their lawn mower.
Upon graduating, Bob found work as a salesman at Heartland Paper Company and remained there throughout his career. He also joined the Sioux Falls Jaycees and loved being a part of their annual haunted house. During this time, he made so many great friends that stretched beyond the walls of these organizations, many of whom he remained in close contact with through the end of his days.
For those of you following along in our family obituaries, there has been some debate as to where Bob met his wife, Vicky Kasch. While we’re still not sure where it happened — bars, cafes, who knows — what we do know is that through thick and thin, through sickness and health, and through the best days and the worst days, these two stuck together. They were united in marriage on Sept. 2, 1978, and remained loyal to each other until Vicky’s passing in 2024. We are sure that Vicky was waiting to reunite with her man, whom she affectionately called “pretty leg Bob,” at the Golden Gates so they could celebrate their 75th birthdays together.
They raised two children, Allyson and Tony, in Sioux Falls. He was a devoted father who was always determined to push his kids to do their best. They remember and honor this every day.
The highlight of Bob’s life was meeting his two granddaughters, Quinn and Capri Kasch. He loved following along on their adventures, reading stories and going along with wherever their crazy antics took them. Through them, Bob became a painter, storyteller, jungle gym and his favorite role, a cookie monster.
Bob was a man of many talents, although he would never admit it. In his younger years, he was an avid woodworker and built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. In his retirement, he could often be found on the golf course, researching his family roots or cheering on the Vikings. He had the most tender spot for dogs and, while Vicky was the one who brought them home (usually unannounced), they were always Bob’s dogs at heart.
In addition to all the dogs, Bob was a lover of people and was so proud of the bonus children in his life. To Chris, Val, Julia, Sara, Blake, Robi, Hallie and your wonderful families, thank you for always including him, taking care of him and loving him like one of your own.
Grateful for having shared his life are his two children and daughter-in-law, Allyson Kasch of Sioux Falls and Tony and Ashtyn Kasch of Bismarck, N.D.; his granddaughters, Quinn and Capri Kasch; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Mark Holling of Omaha; and many amazing nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We’d also like to include his favorite fur babies — Lucy, Maggie and grandpup, Sophie.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky Kasch; his parents, Albert Darrell and Phyllis Kasch; his brother, Rick Kasch; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Steve Hardy.
