PIERRE – The South Dakota House of Representatives voted Monday to earmark $110 million in sales tax revenue for statewide homeowner property tax relief.

The $110 million would come from the end of a temporary tax holiday that concludes next summer when the state’s sales tax rises from 4.2 percent to 4.5 percent.

“This is our shot,” House Speaker Jon Hansen said of Senate Bill 245, of which he sponsored. “This is our shot to answer the call of the people on property taxes.”
