A Pierre-based smoke shop that sells hemp related products is asking a federal judge to block a new law that bans the sale and manufacture of industrial hemp treated with chemically derived cannabinoids. The new law is set to go into effect July 1 after passing the Legislature with scant opposition among lawmakers in March. Gov. Kristi Noem signed the legislation – House Bill 1125 – later that month.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) wants members of its party to make waves in the Rushmore State come this November. The state Democratic party announced Tuesday morning that as part of a $2 million effort to boost down-ballot candidates in historically red states, the DNC would be sending $70,000 to South Dakota.
